Innichen (sea level 1,175 m) on the South side of the Alpine divide is an ideal starting point for excursions and hiking trips into the magical world of the Dolomites (Dolomites World Nature Heritage). Expertly indicated hiking paths lead into a unique mountain scenery of staggering beauty, showing an extraordinary diversity with its bright and arduous crests.
In the wilderness, unspoilt forests are to be discovered, alpine meadows, mountain slopes and spectacular panoramic views. The magnificent surroundings of Innichen on the boundary between the Southern Tyrol (Dolomites) and the Eastern Tyrol (Carnic Alps & Villgratner Mountains) offers many possibilities for relaxation, ranging from relaxed hikes to more challenging mountaineering tours, suitable for all age groups.
Innichen is the starting point of numerous cycling routes and mountain bike tours. Designated cycling paths of all difficulty levels depart to all directions. The Drautal cycling path to Lienz with its optional extension to Maribor (SLO) as well as the Western bound Pustertal cycling track to Bruneck, Brixen and Bozen are considered classics and can be combined with the convenient and inexpensive train service.
The historical center of Innichen in the close vicinity of the house is largely pedestrian and traffic-free. Apart from the impressive Romanesque abbey, the abbey museum and numerous other historical edifices can be visited – but also the generous shopping opportunities are worth a visit.
Centrally located but quiet all the same, the Nidus cottage can be conveniently reached from the esplanade with its manifold shopping and entertainment amenities, the Haunold ski-lift with its summer tobbogan run (Funbob), the Acquafun waterpark (with great concessions available to our guests) as well as all other necessary facilities (coach station, tourist office, hospital etc.).
Between the months of May and September, various cultural and vernacular events are held: fleamarkets, street theater, Gustav Mahler weeks, fun fairs, choir festival and many others. Information can be obtained locally.
